Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
The quiet of winter, not a lot happening in the community. Equality Volunteer Fire Department activities are in the background, updating the lodge kitchen and preparing for the upcoming fundraising season.
Rebel Homesteaders of Coosa and Elmore counties will be holding a healthy eating class on February 8 at 9 a.m. at Jenny’s General Store. They will be doing a seed swap, as well, for those that want to get some starts going.
Don’t forget there is no First Saturday fundraiser in February, and it will be back up and running the first Saturday in March.
One thing that has not been quiet, at least for me, are the executive orders coming from the new president. One is return to the office, and as many may know I have had the blessing of being able to work from home to support myself and family, but that now looks like it is coming to an end. The question is, will I relocate to the base I support in Colorado Springs, Colorado, or will I just find a new job in Huntsville and return to northern Alabama?
Either way, probably another blessing in disguise as business has been so slow for Jenny’s General so I have been planning on closing it, and renovations on the house just haven’t been at the pace that would see an end anytime soon. So, returning to Huntsville and thriving business and busy streets might just be a good thing for me right now.
Not sure if the business buildings will sell; other than the package store nobody wants to shop in Equality so it may sit on the market for years, just as it did prior to me purchasing them.
Coosa County Live has Open Mic Night Friday, February 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
