We survived the deep freeze. We used every bit of the firewood we had, but survived, so that is all that matters.
Hopefully that was the last of this winter’s bitter cold. I am so ready for spring. The added insulation had a major impact on keeping the house warm. With more insulation I am sure it will be very efficient in keeping the house warm in the winter and cool in the summer at minimal cost, which will be important in future retirement days when income becomes fixed.
There seems to be a lot of illness going around, hitting our household, as well. My husband has been poorly, but won’t go see a doctor. I have a hard time having empathy for someone who won’t get the help and treatment available to them, so I stay away from him as much as possible and keep my elderberry syrup close by.
Just a reminder that when it comes to illness sharing is not caring. Please stay home and keep your distance from others as you never know if someone you encounter may be immunocompromised.
February will be a quiet month as far as local gatherings and activities. Rebel Homesteaders of Coosa and Elmore counties will be holding a healthy eating class on February 8 at 9 a.m. at Jenny’s General Store. They will be doing a seed swap, as well, for those that want to get some starts going.
Don’t forget there is no First Saturday fundraiser in February, and it will be back up and running the first Saturday in March.
Coosa County Live has Open Mic Night Friday, February 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
