A man and woman were arrested late last month for marijuana, with the man facing additional charges, following a vehicle pursuit.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that on December 20, Deputy Dawson responded to a call on Alabama Highway 9 regarding unwanted people in an individual’s driveway. Upon arriving at the scene, he saw a vehicle exit the driveway and leave at a high rate of speed.
Dawson attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle kept going. Hammond stated that at one point the vehicle left the roadway, and the driver exited the vehicle.
Dawson got the driver to the ground and began investigating with another law enforcement officer. A female passenger was inside the vehicle at the time, and while speaking with her, the other officer noticed a joint containing a green leafy substance in the vehicle.
Officers went back to the treeline where the driver fell and found a baggy of a clear crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.
The investigation culminated in the driver, 41-year-old Christopher Shane Murray of Hollins, being arrested and charged with attempting to elude, first-degree possession of marijuana, reckless endangerment, and possession of a controlled substance. His marijuana possession charge was elevated to first degree because of having a prior conviction of marijuana possession.
The passenger, 34-year-old Amanda Kaylan Lynn of Hollins, was also arrested and charged with second-degree possession of marijuana.
Murray’s total bond for all four charges was set at $15,000. On January 13 he was released to another agency from the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Lynn’s bond was set at $2,500. She was released from the Coosa County Jail on a written court order on January 16.
