Equality & NIxburg News

Happy New Year, all. I am praying that 2025 is a blessed year where we all prosper in every positive way.
So far during this past weekend my daughter came over, and we traced the mess of old electrical wire under the house. Found a short, but we know there must be at least two more. Sad that we have had two electricians come to update the electrical and both said the wiring was good.
Well, I wanted the old, braided wire replaced, but was told not to waste my money. But just knowing that a possible electrical fire in a 110-year-old house made of heart pine has been avoided is worth more than my weight in gold, and I am no light weight. So not a waste of money for me. For 2025 I will have that peace of mind and hopefully a lower power bill, as well.
In my last column I wrote about pets and how we have new cats on the homestead that just showed up. Well low and behold someone read my column and has inquired about the orange cat that is a look alike for our Tigger but is a long-haired cat. We are in the process of trying to live trap and see if it is their cat. How exciting!
Now I am going to talk about the other recent cat to show up, and maybe someone recognizes this one, as well. He/she is short-haired grey with white on the face and white socks on each paw. Stocky, thick build, not fat but very muscular. I have trapped him twice trying to trap the orange cat. Seems he likes to eat.
Let us all start the new year by supporting our Equality Volunteer Fire Department and coming to the First Saturday fund raising event on January 4. Donations for breakfast and lunch, bake sale and rummage sale all go to support the efforts needed to keep our fire department well equipped and growing to support our community.
It starts at 8 a.m. and closes at 1 p.m. Come early and stay or come early and return for lunch. Either way you won’t be disappointed with the fellowship and support of our community.
Coosa County Live Open Mic Night is next Friday, January 10, 7 to 9 p.m. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
The Neighborhood Watch meeting is the fourth Thursday, January 23. Please plan to attend and participate in this community event including a potluck, safety updates, sheriff report, and fellowship with neighbors. It starts at 6:30 p.m.
Bingo is the last Saturday of the month, January 25, at 4 p.m. at the Equality Volunteer Fire Department Lodge. You will notice the large sign on the front of the building identifying it as the Lodge. Bingo cards are $1 each with all proceeds going to support the Equality Volunteer Fire Department. Come join in for an afternoon of fun and fellowship.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
