Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Merry Christmas and happy New Year! I forgot there wouldn’t be a paper last week, so I failed to wish everyone happy holidays. I hope everyone ate all the greens for money and black-eyed peas for luck that they could.
Have you made your New Year’s resolutions? If not, make them now. Some I make every year that are annual accomplishments; some I repeat because I didn’t make the goal. One I’m making this year is to read the Bible though in 2025.
As I write this early on New Year’s Eve, I’m getting the house straightened and food cooked. I always host a New Year’s Eve get-together for family and friends. So, I’ve got cakes cooked, pies in the oven and ready to put on my soup and chili. We will play games and watch a slide show of old pictures.
So come early and watch ball games. Everyone comes and goes as they need to, but most stay until midnight to ring in the new year.
School starts back for students on Tuesday, January 7. I’m sure parents are ready for them to be back in school, not sure if teachers and staff are. So, be on the lookout for those big, yellow buses making stops picking up and dropping off starting on Tuesday.
The next Bingo for the Richville Volunteer Fire Department will be January 11 at 6:30 p.m. Make plans to attend and maybe win a prize or two. They sell concessions, also. We always have fun and a great time, so put it on your calendar.
Providence Baptist Church has Sunday School at 10 and worship at 11 each Sunday morning. We also meet at 6 on Sunday nights and 6:30 on Wednesday night. If you don’t have a church, we would love to have you come worship with us. We are located about 2 miles off Alabama Highway 22 at 2950 Coosa County Road 459 in the Richville community. There are several other churches in our area that would welcome visitors at any time, and their services are about the same time as ours.
Starting a new year with Bible passages, so going to be looking at verses about living life with purpose this month. The first one is found in Jeremiah 29:11 which reads, “For I know the plans I have for you” – this is the LORD’S declaration – “plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
This is also one of my favorite verses. Jeremiah was telling the people to establish their new lives in Babylon by doing ordinary things like marrying, having children, building houses, and planting gardens. They were dealing with uncertain times, but Jeremiah was reminding them that God is in control.
These were comforting words then, as well as now. Regardless of our situation, God has a plan for us that gives us hope and a future.
Please be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
