Central’s Lady Cougars simply couldn’t be stopped as they easily beat the B.B. Comer Tigers in their match-up with a score of 42-11. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having, at that point, won four games by 31 points or more this season.
Central found their leader in sophomore Queen Ballard, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 boards. What’s more, Ballard also racked up three steals, the most she’s had since back in December of 2023. Imiya Reese was another key player, putting up eight points along with eight steals and five boards.
The Lady Cougars also strolled past the Reeltown Rebels with points to spare, taking the game 42-26. The Cougars pushed the score to 37-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rebels cut, but never quite recovered from. Leading Central to victory in this match-up were Queen Ballard once again, along with senior Traci Cox. Ballard dropped a double-double on 16 points and 23 boards, while Cox dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ballard has scored at least a third of Central’s points. Another player making a difference was Myrakel Coleman who posted eight points.
Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team; they’ve now pulled down at least 16 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests. The Lady Cougars now have a winning record of 5-4.
The Cougar boys basketball team presented an exciting game as they escaped with a win against the B.B. Comer Tigers by the margin of a single free throw, 60-59. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their 25-point performance the contest before against 6A Benjamin Russell.
Central of Coosa County was led to victory by Kaleb Ballard and LaCorrian Thompson. Ballard dropped a triple-double on 15 points, 14 rebounds and 14 blocks, while Thompson posted 20 points in addition to eight boards and seven assists. With that strong performance, Thompson is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. Another player making a difference was Javon Thomas, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 11 points.
The Cougars also walked away with a 58-51 victory over the Reeltown Rebels on Tuesday thanks in part to LaCorrian Thompson, who went 12 of 21 on his way to 28 points and six steals. The match-up was his third in a row with at least 10 points.
The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Ballard, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and four blocks. Ballard is crushing it when it comes to blocks; he’s posted at least two every time he’s taken the court this season. Central’s win against Reeltown bumped their record up to 5-2.
Central of Coosa County will be on the road to Vincent Thursday as the paper goes to press and then will play in the Christmas Tournament at Auburn December 20-21.
