In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
Can you believe Christmas will be next week? Where has this year gone? Since there won’t be an edition of the newspaper next week, I’m going to try to spend next week remembering some of the highlights of this past year. I do know that many of my priorities have changed this year, and I still have some changes to make going into next year. Maybe you should start thinking about your New Year resolutions also.
Last week’s Christmas Parade in Rockford was wonderful! So many more entries from around Coosa County and even outside the county. I normally watch the parade from the west side of Hwy 231 but decided to go up to Town Hall this year. It was so sad looking across the street at the dark buildings with no lights – except some at the old drug store. Oh! And Buzzy sitting on the roof of the newspaper office!! Most of the other buildings went all out as usual – OR MORE! My opinion – if you own or rent a building on Main Street you should at least attempt to participate in our holiday celebration. But, maybe these owners/renters were following the theme of the parade – The Grinch!
We are seeing hopeful things going on in our country. Many of the Democrats are stepping up to accept the voice of the people who voted for change. And many of them actually voted outside their party because they realized they were being ignored while illegal immigrants were being financially supported directly or indirectly by our tax dollars. But our American citizens were being left out of the promises that had been made to THEM for years with no results. But that is going to change! I hope the reorganization of the Democrat Party will bring them back to a real concern for Americans and our way of life.
World leaders and major corporations are welcoming Donald Trump as if he had already been inaugurated! They see the difference that will be coming and are ready to get on the train to “Make America Great Again” and “Keep America Great Again.” Syria has overthrown their dictator; Hamas/Hezbollah have backed off on some of their attacks and have been warned what will happen if all captives are not returned by January 20; companies are looking at bringing their businesses back to America; and waste of our tax money is being investigated! I had NO idea that so many federal employees were still working from home because of COVID! And I’m guessing they are still receiving their original amount or more in salaries. Buildings owned by or being rented by federal agencies are sitting virtually empty while our tax dollars pay the utilities. Another breath of fresh air has been President-elect Trump’s availability to answer questions. This week he held a press conference answering questions for over one hour from representatives of ALL media attending!
Also what I find interesting is that many of the mainstream media are being called out for the way they covered the campaigns and election reporting. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, we do not really have UNBIASED NEWS COVERAGE. The majority of all media is mostly OPINIONS. Even the recordings of people saying something has been distorted or reported out of context. This will only get worse with all of the AI (Artificial Intelligence) coming out. Are we really going to be able to trust anything – even if we see it with our own eyes?
Enjoy the next few weeks because the 2026 election campaigns will start shortly after the first of the year. There really IS no rest for the weary. Merry Christmas and remember the reason for the season – the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ!
