Richville Rundown

Our turnout was low, but the enthusiasm was great! We had four entries for the chili cook-off. They were all delicious, and it was a close competition with only four votes difference between first and fourth. I enjoyed them all.
We had a variety of baked goods, also. In total, we raised a little more than $150 to go towards hosting a family for Christmas.
The chili and baked goods that were left were sold at the Fire Department Bingo that night. We had several new faces at Bingo! Everyone had a great time. The next Bingo will be in January.
I forgot to wish those having birthdays in December, which includes two grandsons, happy birthday last week. So belated birthday wishes to all.
Providence Baptist Church will have its Christmas program this Sunday, December 15, at 6 p.m. Finger foods and desserts will be in the fellowship hall following the program. All are invited.
The weather has varied a lot this week with warmer temperatures and rain to more seasonal cold. By the time this comes out it will be back to cold again.
I love this time of year with Christmas and New Year’s! If you drive around in our community and surrounding areas, many houses are decorated. Now, many people decorate with all white lights, but personally, I love multi-colored lights. It’s only been in recent years that white lights are a “thing.”
I’m going to continue sharing Bible verses connected to Christmas. While some may not be traditional Christmastime verses, I associate them with the season. This verse, however, is very traditional for this time of year. Luke 2:10-11 reads, “But the angel said to them, ‘Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you in the city of David.’”
Who was the angel talking to? The shepherds in a field taking care of their sheep. However, in the angel’s message, he points out that this announcement is for all people. By appearing to shepherds, the common people of that time, it emphasized that Jesus would be for all regardless of who they are. Or what they have.
Can you imagine the feelings of the shepherds? Here they are out in the countryside, no lights, only them, then, all of a sudden, a bright light created by an angel who speaks to them. This was no ordinary person, and they knew that right away.
The angel is aware of their fear over his appearance, but he tells them not to be afraid, that he has something great to share with them. His message is about hope for all humanity!
Yes, Christmas is a time we give to others, but the most important gift that has ever been given was the birth of Jesus, God’s Son. A time of joy, not fear!
Please be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
