Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I hope all in our community had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day, whether spent with family, friends, or enjoying some downtime with yourself. Although I do enjoy family gatherings, I truly enjoyed the majority of the day just enjoying some alone downtime.
I also enjoyed having time off from work and the store to get some work done on the house. The kitchen has a fresh new look; not the remodel I hope to do one day, but enough to make it easier to cook in. I also started sorting through the laundry room that has become a catchall for items we need to donate. And of course, more time on the front entryway, stripping old paint off trim and doorways so that I can stain and poly coat them.
I’m almost complete with the entryway and can move into one of the front rooms and start the process all over again. But I still need to spend some time outdoors and winterize my garden and do some repairs on the barn. I might have to take a day or two off of work to get that done.
Tomorrow, December 7, is the last Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s First Saturday fundraiser for this year. Come at 8 a.m. for breakfast, bake sale and rummage sale, and return at 11 a.m. for lunch plates. This event is not just a great way to support our volunteer fire department, but also a great opportunity to stay connected with the community with food and fellowship.
Coosa County Live Open Mic Night on the second Friday of each month is December 13. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
Rebel Homesteaders of Coosa and Elmore counties is having a Christmas Shop. There will be several tables of people selling homemade goods such as goat soap, vanilla, woodwork products, and sourdough bread, offering an opportunity to shop locally for Christmas gifts. It will be held at the new event venue, Grand Fava Farm, at 1077 County Road 4, December 15 starting at 2 p.m. If you would like to participate in the sale, please contact me for more details.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
