Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Thanksgiving is approaching, and I know many are preparing for a feast and their focus is on their turkey and sides. My focus is on my family and life and gratefulness for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I know that sounds cliché, but it is so true, and we should never take it for granted.
Life may be tough right now; some have lost loved ones, others struggling with finances, others with homelessness or homes needing much repair, car troubles, splintered relationships, and other trials. But we live in a country where even our poorest citizens are richer than the wealthiest in other countries. We live in a country where education is available to every child. We live in a country where information is free if you want to research a new idea. We can speak freely even if someone else doesn’t like what we say.
We live in a country where we can pursue our happiness whether it is to live in the city, the suburbs, or in the countryside. We can work in a factory, office, or start our own business. And some of us are so blessed to live in Coosa County, and best of all, very, very blessed to live in Equality and Nixburg, which to me is a bit of heaven.
Jenny’s General will not be open on Thanksgiving Day, but will be open normal hours on Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. Don’t forget to come and check out The General’s Hot Sauce. The General is a veteran-owned, veteran hire, dealing with American farmers business who bottle their hot sauce in hand grenade shaped bottles. Jenny’s still has a large range of spices, herbs, loose leaf teas, essential oils, jams, jellies, and sauces.
Coosa County Live has no events for the rest of the month of November. Next event will be Open Mic Night the second Friday in December, which will be December 13.
Because of the upcoming holiday season Equality Neighborhood Watch for November and December are being combined to one meeting on December 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please join us for a community gathering with food, safety tips, sheriff’s updates, and socializing with our neighbors.
Rebel Homesteaders of Coosa and Elmore counties is having a Christmas Shop. Several tables will have people selling homemade goods such as goat soap, vanilla and sourdough bread, offering an opportunity to shop locally for Christmas gifts. It will be held at the new event venue Grand Fava Farm at 1077 County Road 4, December 15 starting at 2 p.m. If you would like to participate in selling, please contact me for more details and sign up.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
