Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
This past Tuesday was Veterans Day. It was also the day of Mr. Joe Collins’ memorial service and funeral. It was so fitting that a man who had served in World War II and almost 105 years old be buried on this day.
As I looked around, those in attendance were a diverse group of family, friends and others that Mr. Joe had touched on their lives in some way. He will be greatly missed, and Coosa County lost a great historian.
The next Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo will be on Saturday, December 7, at 6:30 p.m. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend. We always have a good time of fellowship and fun. They sell concessions, also.
The Richville Neighborhood Watch will be sponsoring a Chili Cook-Off and bake sale on Saturday, December 7. Winner will be determined by popular vote and announced at 2 p.m. They will receive $100 prize money. Everyone is invited to come out! To sample the chili and vote, tickets are $1 per vote. Multiple tickets may be purchased. Entry fee is $20. Participants must have their chili at the fire department by 12:00, along with a list of ingredients. If you wish to enter, please contact either Pinky Reichert at 205-616-3581 or Ron Garrison at 256-935-0693.
There will also be a bake sale with a variety of baked goods from cakes, breads and other goodies. If you wish to donate baked goods, please contact Pinky or Ron at the above numbers. The proceeds from the bake sale will be used to sponsor a family for Christmas. Baked goods for sale should be at the fire department by 12:00.
My Bible verses continue to be about thanksgiving, so this week the passage comes from Colossians 3: 15-17. It reads, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
These verses fit so well right now with the presidential election behind us. Our country should unite as one body and have peace in our hearts and with one another. That peace in our hearts will call us to make peace with others, which will extend to the church and therefore influence the world. We should be full of God so that we radiate in a way that others will see something different in our lives. God has been so good to us that we need to strive to be more grateful to Him each day.
Please be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
