Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
We finally got a little rain this week, but thankful for all we get. According to weather predictions our chances will increase this week with a hurricane forming in the gulf.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo on Saturday night was well attended. It was good to see some new attendees. The next Bingo will be on Saturday, December 67 at 6:30 p.m. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend. We always have a good time of fellowship and fun. They sell concessions, also.
As I write this on the eve of the election, I hope everyone went out and voted. It is a right and privilege that we have thanks to all those that have fought and defended our country over the years. Many gave the ultimate price of their lives. So, thank you, veteran!
This Monday, November 11, is Veterans Day! It is one of the federal holidays that is always observed on the same day every year with so many holidays now observed on a Monday so people will have a three-day weekend. So what is so important about November 11? What is Veterans Day?
World War I ended with the signing of the Armistice on November 11, 1918, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. This holiday was originally called Armistice Day as World War I was supposed to be the war to end all wars. However, peace didn’t last long with the beginning of World War II.
President Eisenhower in 1954 signed the bill changing the name from “Armistice Day” to “Veterans Day” to recognize all veterans. In 1968, Congress passed a law changing the national observance to the fourth Monday in October. However, it was soon realized that November 11 was a historic date for many. So, in 1978, Congress changed the date back to November 11.
So, since my Bible verses this month are going to be about thanksgiving, my verses this week are Philippians 4:6-7. They read, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
What wonderful assurance that God gives us peace in our situations if we just trust Him. These verses are so important to our peace of mind during this current situation. Leading up to the election, there has been much anxiety and discord from all sides. We just need to turn it over to God, so that is what I have tried to do during this election process. It’s not easy and I fail miserably, but I keep trying. So regardless of who wins, life will go on; make the best of it.
Please be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
