Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Still no rain; it’s so dry. On the bright side, I won’t need to cut my grass again. Be careful if you are burning or just having a fire outside. While there is no ban right now, the forestry commission has asked everyone to avoid outside burning. It is so easy to get away from you even if you are watching with a water hose.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo will be this Saturday, November 2, at 6:30 p.m. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend. We always have a good time of fellowship and fun. They sell concessions, also.
This is a reminder for everyone to “fall back” with the time change on Sunday. This is the time of year when we run our clocks back. Most of us now have clocks and watches that will do it automatically.
Don’t forget to go out and vote on Tuesday, November 5. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. While there are no opposed county elections, there are a couple of state offices, as well as the presidential office on the ballot.
The Richville Neighborhood Watch will meet on Thursday, November 7, at 6 p.m. Make plans to come out and see what is going on in our community.
Sardis Baptist Church had its Fall Festival last week with a good turnout. Everyone had a great time. Thanks to all those that helped.
Happy birthday to all those celebrating this month! This is the month for Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving, as well as “Black Friday” shopping and the Alabama/Auburn football game. So, my Bible verses this month are going to be about thanksgiving.
The first one is from Psalm 100:4-5. It reads, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
These two verses combine thanksgiving and praise. We should count our blessings and praise God for them instead of complaining and indulging in self-pity. It is so easy to say “poor me” in circumstances, but we need to praise God for what we have instead. One definition of thanksgiving is the expression of gratitude to God. We need to praise God in our prayers for all He has done for us. Be a “Pollyanna” not an “Eeyore.”
Eeyore is a character from Winnie the Pooh books who is the opposite of Pollyanna. He is pessimistic, depressed and gloomy while she looks on the bright side, seeing the positive of a situation. Do you look at a glass as half empty or half full? That is a comparison to Eeyore and Pollyanna. I encourage you to look at a glass as half full and be a Pollyanna. Everyone around you will appreciate the positive attitude. Also, you will feel better, too!
Please be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
