The Buzz
Buzzy the Buzzard
I am not sure if everyone, or anyone, in Coosa County appreciates the gem we have on Flagg Mountain. Its value is the strength of forming partnerships and drawing people together.
The Alabama Forestry Commission owns the property. The Alabama Trails Foundation wants to use the tower as a museum and interpretive center. And a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts is making it work.
Two programs last fall; “Birds, Beat and Bach” and “Pines, Poets, and Plein Air;” were held as experiments.
The result? Poets, musicians, artists, scientists, naturalists, and historians from throughout the state visited. A number of different organizations, several universities, and non-profits, as well as our local indigenous community, got involved.
The buzz about this? Tourism is a green industry that benefits our economy. Some people don’t like outsiders, but when the outsiders are pretty girls with violins and geeks with binoculars, we don’t need to be afraid. We just need them to draw a crowd and come back.
Your eye in the sky, love,
Buzzy
