Wow, another major hurricane! As I write this, Florida is getting ready for another hit from a major, possibly record-breaking, hurricane.
While this one is predicted to go across Florida into the Atlantic, there are many areas that are in the same path as Hurricane Helene. Please pray for the area that will be impacted. Also, please continue to pray for all those that were affected by Hurricane Helene.
I just returned from a trip to the Amish country in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It was so interesting. We also visited Philadelphia and Gettysburg. While the leaves were not fully turned, it was still beautiful.
We stayed at an Amish Airbnb. Yes, we had electricity and running water; the farm across the road did not. It was interesting to watch them go about their daily lives which started early and ended late. The family was very friendly.
Central’s homecoming is tonight with kick-off at 7 p.m. Pre-game events start at 6:20 with the CHS Band performance and crowning of the CES Queen. During half-time the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned along with a fireworks display. There will be a homecoming parade on Friday, October 11, at 2 p.m. at the stadium.
School is out on Monday, October 14, for Columbus Day. It celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas on October 12, 1492. In 1934, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt issued a proclamation designating October 12 as Columbus Day. It was not a federal holiday until President Lyndon Johnson signed a bill on June 28, 1968, to be effective beginning in 1971. Since then, it has been observed on the second Monday in October.
Sardis Baptist Church will have its Fall Festival on Sunday, October 27, beginning at 4 p.m. They will have games, food, cake walks, and hayrides. This is a free event with fun for every age. All are welcome.
The next Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo will be on Saturday, November 2, at 6:30 p.m. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend.
My Bible verse this week is about change of seasons. Genesis 8:22 reads, “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night will not cease.”
This is not a usual verse for discussion about change of seasons. However, this verse reaffirms that God is going to be faithful to His promise to Noah that He will never destroy all life on earth at one time again.
This verse encourages us to be thankful to God for His blessings. It doesn’t promise us no conflicts or problems, but encouragement to believe and trust Him to take care of us.
Our prayer list at church has many names that are suffering with cancer, as well as other physical and spiritual needs. Please pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
