For the last few weeks all I have written about has been the deaths of loved ones, and this week is no exception. We lost a super-great loved one, Deacon Jimmy Tuck.
He was not super because he was the father of a superhero, former New York Giants’ super defensive football player Justin Tuck, a very humble gentleman. Jimmy was super because God was his father.
Jimmy loved God more than anything, and I know that for a fact! Yes, he loved his wife, Elaine, and their children, and he was very fond of his Pastor Autry Powell and wife. He loved Powell like a brother, and he truly loved his brothers, Larry, Spencer, Greg, and Jeffery. Jimmy was a lovable person. However, after all of them, he loved God first and the most.
Pastor Powell did Jimmy’s eulogy with great honor, speaking of a faithful servant and Jimmy’s life story. He spoke on how all of Jimmy’s seven children were saved and served God faithfully like their dad.
Jimmy’s two sons, Jamison and Justin, spoke very highly of their father, all about how pure and faithful he was. His son-in-law Tyrone spoke on how he was more than a father-in-law and how much he loved Jimmy and of his genuine spirit.
Powell did such a great job on Jimmy that he didn’t leave much room for me to write and brag about my daughter’s first cousin, Jimmy Tuck. So I’ll just write about Pastor Powell to honor Jimmy, because they were so close, a pastor and a brother relationship.
Powell is a great pastor and was Jimmy’s pastor for 29 years until God said, “Well done, my faithful servant.” on September 20, 2024. Powell is and has been my bonus/chosen nephew for years, but he didn’t know it until I moved back home to Alabama after many years of living in New York.
He and my nephew Pastor Wilbert Johnson grew up together as young men. Wilbert’s mom; my older sister, Peggy; chose Powell as her son years before he became a preacher, so he is my chosen nephew, and we love him very much, as we do Jimmy.
Oh, I just got the news that my sister Peggy passed 20 minutes ago. I’ve got to stop writing. This is unbelievable! I was just writing about her, my sister, Wilbert’s mom and Powell’s chosen mom.
