A Sylacauga man was arrested last Friday on drug-related charges following a traffic stop.
On September 6, Deputy Payton and Sgt. Rudd conducted a traffic stop on County Road 35 in the Stewartville and Weogufka area for a traffic violation and made contact with the driver.
Upon getting the driver out of the vehicle and patting him down for safety, law enforcement officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from him.
They proceeded to conduct a second frisk and found 17.26 grams of a green leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana in his boot.
Additionally, in conducting a search of the vehicle, deputies found a container of a clear crystal-like substance that was confirmed to be crystal methamphetamine.
Ultimately, the traffic stop led to the arrest of 57-year-old David Wayne Conn of Sylacauga. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, first-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Conn’s marijuana possession charge was escalated to a first-degree charge because of a prior marijuana possession conviction.
Conn’s bond for all three charges was set at $12,500. He was released on bond on Monday to await trial.
Anyone who observes or suspects illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
