Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Making progress on my front entryway, with decisions on paint color and crown molding. Bringing back some history to the house by accentuating the tall ceilings with some stacked crown molding, very Victorian.
The door casings are a bit more of a challenge as we are wanting to reuse what was original. However, at some point in the past the tops of all the casings and rosettes were cut in half to lower the ceilings. And they don’t make door casings or rosettes like they used to. I will have the rosettes custom made and create the top casing with stacking molding pieces on a board to give a similar look to the rest of the trim work.
If I can come up with the money to finish the house, I would love for the “This Old House” crew to come and help make it honor its history while also bringing it into the present.
Speaking of past and history, I had an encounter with someone who could only focus on another person’s past. The fact that the subject had a very rough patch in their life and did some unusual things to survive and cope was all this person could focus on. Not the person the subject had become, how successful they were trying to be, what they went through yet overcame.
This really bothers me. We all have a past; some had it easier than others. In my life those that had the roughest past have the most powerful testimony. But it is theirs to tell, not for others to gossip about. Holding someone’s past against them is just evil in my eyes. If God can redeem, shouldn’t we?
