Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
The weather is still hot and so is the bus ride for our students. The schools have about 800 students with about half riding the buses. Please donate bottled water for the bus riders. You can drop off at either the high school or the elementary school.
Don’t forget the first volleyball game will be on Thursday, August 22, starting at 4:30 at home playing Talladega. The Junior Varsity and Varsity will both be playing. Then on Friday, August 23, will be our first football game of the season. It will be at home against Sylacauga. Come out and support our team and new coach, Daniel Flowers. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
We had a good turnout at bingo with lots of laughs and winners. This was the last one until after football season.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department will be selling Boston butts again for Labor Day weekend for $35 with pickup on Saturday morning, August 31, from 7 to 9. Also, the Richville Neighborhood Watch will have baked goods for sale. So, come out and support your fire department and Neighborhood Watch while getting delicious food!
Providence Baptist Church will have revival beginning August 25 with Turk Holt as evangelist. Services will be Sunday morning worship at 11 a.m.; Sunday night at 6 p.m.; and Monday through Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. On Sunday morning, August 25th we will have a fellowship meal after the service. Everyone is invited.
The inaugural Providence Baptist Church Master’s Classic Bass Tournament will be Saturday, September 7, at Lake Mitchell, Barrett’s Landing, starting at safe daylight. Weigh-in will be at 2 p.m. The church will be serving hot dogs and chips to all. This is a community event with all proceeds to be paid out in winnings.
Union Baptist Church will have homecoming on Sunday, August 25, starting at 10 a.m. Special music will be provided by The David Vick Band. Following the service, they will have a fellowship meal. All are invited to attend.
I attended the annual Central Baptist Association Pastors/Deacons/Spouses dinner on Monday night. They had an excellent turnout with 19 of 22 churches represented. Triple R catered a delicious meal followed by a great program by Doug Rogers, state missionary. He used episodes and clips from “The Andy Griffith Show” to give us “Life Lessons from Mayberry.”
My Bible verse this week is from one of the references that Doug Rogers used about cultivating the habit of remembering. Psalm 119:16 reads, “I will delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.”
We should not only read our Bibles, but remember the verses! As a youngster, we would learn Bible verses in Sunday school. We had a chart, and every Sunday we would get a star if we could recite the memory verse from the prior week. I don’t think churches today put an emphasis on learning Bible verses. While I can’t remember all, there are two or three verses that I can still recall today.
Our prayer list at church has many names that are suffering with cancer, as well as other physical and spiritual needs. Please pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
