The Buzz
Buzzy the Buzzard
I love reading “Sean of the South.” He can turn a wicked phrase. Recently he referred to boiled peanuts as the caviar of the SEC. Now, is that complimentary, derogatory, or mixed? Which way? Whatever way, the phrase sticks with you and makes you laugh.
Sean gets southerners’ relationship with food. And I get small town cafes. I will seek them out and have found some real gems: in Jemison; Cullman; Troy; Richland, Ga.; Brent; Speedwell, Va.; Greenback, Tenn.; Blairsville, Ga. The places I am talking about often serve bodacious breakfasts – you can smell the bacon across the parking lot. They serve stuff like banana pudding, chicken livers, hamburger steak, and green beans cooked with fat back.
But don’t get me started on fried chicken unless you are going to bring up Rockford’s own Triple R Cafe. I swear God reaches down and blesses it every day.
Now the Triple R is under new management, Jessica M. Jones, and I wish them well. From what I understand, they will be using many of the same recipes and adding new features. Just don’t mess with the chicken. I’ll be watching.
Your eye in the sky, love,
Buzzy
