A Sylacauga man is in custody on six charges, including drug-related charges and resisting arrest, following a traffic stop earlier this week.
On Monday, Deputy Payton was on patrol in the Stewartville area working with the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office when he observed a vehicle whose driver he recognized and knew had outstanding warrants with Talladega County, according to reports.
Payton conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and asked for the driver’s name. However, the driver provided incorrect information.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond said that at that time facial recognition was conducted and confirmed that the driver was who Payton thought it was.
The driver, 43-year-old Daryl Brian Hosey of Sylacauga, was detained and handcuffed. However, he got back into the vehicle and attempted to put it into gear, at which time deputies removed him from it.
In conducting a routine search, law enforcement officers found a filled needle on his person and another needle in his pocket. They also found a green leafy substance confirmed to be marijuana.
Ultimately the traffic stop resulted in Hosey being arrested on six charges in Coosa County. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), first-degree possession of marijuana, obstruction of justice giving a false identity, attempting to elude law enforcement officers, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hosey’s marijuana possession charge was escalated to first degree because of a prior marijuana conviction.
His total bond was set at $20,000 for all six charges. As of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
Anyone who observes or suspects illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
