Last Saturday, July 13, the Alabama Department of Corrections Staton K-9 Unit located and detained three trespassers on state property near the Elmore Correctional Facility, a medium-security prison for men located in Elmore County.
While tracking the trespassers, two packages of contraband were also recovered at the site.
Suspects Christopher Lashawn Smith and Indya Sade Harris were arrested and each charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and first- and second-degree promoting prison contraband.
Smith and Harris were both transported to the Elmore County Jail. The third suspect was a juvenile and was released to a family member.
Smith, 18 years old of Montgomery, has a total bond of $60,000 for all three charges. As of press time he remained in custody at the Elmore County Jail.
Bond information for Harris, 29 years old of Montgomery, was not available. However, following her arrest on July 13, she was released from the Elmore County Jail on July 16.
The Law Enforcement Services Division investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be pending.
