Once again the Board of Education agenda primarily consisted of personnel-related matters for a called meeting held June 5, as the board prepares for a new school year.
After unanimously approving rescinding the non-renewal of Kelli Hilyer as an eleventh and twelfth grade math teacher because notification of resignation had been received, the board then unanimously approved accepting a letter of resignation from Hilyer effective May 24.
Regarding other resignations, the board also unanimously approved acceptance of a letter of resignation from elementary school counselor Maegan Williams-Pope, effective July 7, and one from bus driver Terry Brown, effective June 4.
In other personnel matters, the board also unanimously approved two voluntary transfers for the 2024-2025 school year. One was the transfer of Jessica Adams from fourth grade teacher to the vacant position of the building-based math coach at Central Elementary School, and the other of Amy Carlton from fourth through sixth grade special education teacher to the vacant position of the multi-needs self-contained special education teacher at the elementary school.
Regarding new hires, the board unanimously approved two certified recommendations and approved one certified recommendation by majority vote.
The board unanimously approved Adri Hern as a K-6 collaborative special education teacher and Morris Phillips as a math teacher at the high school, both for the 2024-2025 school year.
The board also approved hiring Callie Causey as an elementary education teacher for the 2024-2025 school year with a 4-1 vote. Board Member Sharon Massie opposed the motion.
In other business, the board unanimously approved a contract for service with Frontline Education, with the contract commencing August 1 and ending June 30, 2025.
Frontline Absence & Time software provides a unified solution for managing both absence and time, allowing districts to manage employee absences and quickly find substitutes. Funding for the software will come from the board’s general fund.
The board also unanimously approved two agreements, with one being with ClassWallet to manage funds for classroom instructional supplies.
The other is an agreement between Coosa County schools and architect McKee & Associates Inc. for an architect’s fee to draw up plans for a waste water plant. Specifically, the agreement is for the amount of $44,000 for the waste water plant for Central High School Coosa County, project number 24-110.
Following its regular monthly meeting June 27, the next regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Coosa County Board of Education will be held July 25 at 4 p.m.
