An Alexander City man is in custody after a Kellyton residence was hit twice, being burglarized two separate dates.
On May 20, the Sheriff’s Office took a report for burglary and theft from a residence on County Road 50 in Kellyton.
Additionally, on May 22 Deputy Payton responded to the Kellyton area for a report of a burglary in progress at the same residence.
Upon arriving at the scene, he noticed the back door and a window were open. As he approached he observed smoke coming from the window, but no one was at the house at the time.
The case was turned over to investigations, and Investigator Troy Middlebrook took the lead in the case. Over time more information came into investigations as evidence.
On Monday, June 10, Middlebrook arrested 28-year-old Quyntarvis Diandrew Whetstone of Alexander City. He was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree arson and fourth-degree theft of property.
Further investigation led to determining that Whetstone was also involved with the May 20 burglary of the same residence. As such, he was arrested on Wednesday, June 12, and further charged with another count of third-degree burglary and first-degree theft of property.
Whetstone’s total bond was set at $38,000 for all charges. As of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
The case remains an ongoing investigation.
