June 3-27

Free summer meals for Coosa youth: Kids 18 and younger eat free. Available at Central High School Coosa County (97 County Road 75, Rockford) and at Goodwater Parks and Recreation (166 Harris Street, Goodwater) June 3-27 on Mondays through Thursdays. June 15

The SOS Queendom and the J.D. Thompson Alumni Association are looking for the next young lady to hold the crown of Miss Juneteenth. Come on out to the Juneteenth Festival to be held at the Blue Emerald at Central Park, County Road 93 in Cottage Grove, on June 15. The pageant will be divided into three categories: Little Miss, ages 5-12; Jr. Miss, ages 13-16; and Miss, ages 17-19. African attire is encouraged but not required. Candidate entry fee: $20. Coosa County’s Juneteenth Festival will be June 15, 2-9 p.m., held at the Blue Emerald at Central Park in Cottage Grove. Still accepting sponsors to help us give this community an exciting celebration. Fun games for kids, bouncy houses, fireworks show, ATV rides, Miss Juneteenth pageant, music by DJ Big C, vendors, and more. Vendor fee is $40 for table vendor, $75 for food truck. Informational booths are free. June 17

The monthly meeting for the Coosa County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will be held on Monday, June 17, at 10 a.m. at the District Office located at 226 Coosa County Road 157 in Hanover.

 

June 22

On June 22 we will be holding our Homestead Trade Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2232 Chana Creek, Eclectic. Free admission! Vendors are wanted, and it is $10 to set up. For more information please reach out to us at hisdaisy1333@gmail.com or 941-830-0180.

 

June 28-July 26

The Rockford Public Library is proud to announce its Summer Reading Program schedule. Join us on June 28, July 12, and July 26 for reading fun and activities. The June 28 Summer Reading Program will be held at the town park from 10 to 1 with a bounce house, food, and giveaways. On July 12 and July 26 it will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the library with snacks furnished. Come and join the fun!

 

June 28

Come join Rockford Public Library for fun, food and giveaways at the Rockford Playground from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 28! The event will feature a bounce house with water slide! Come enjoy the day celebrating your local library!

 

Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

The Coosa County Historical Society will be opening the Old Rock Jail beginning Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 4. The jail will be open each Sunday in April, May and June except for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. It will be closed for the months of July and August, opening back up the second Sunday in September until October 13.

 

Quarterly

The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
