Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
It’s the last few weeks of spring, but it already feels like summer. Grass also needs mowing as soon as you mow it, same with weeding the garden. Drenched in sweat ten minutes after walking out the door, don’t even have to exert yourself.
Unfortunately for me, also multiple migraines; as soon as one ends another tries to start up. I am blaming it on the weather pattern as El Nino is kicking and screaming rather than leaving quietly. I pray I adapt soon and will be done with these migraines.
Activities and events happening in Equality and Nixburg:
Coosa Live has Open Mic Night on the second Friday, June 14; Karaoke Night on the third Friday, June 21; and a live performance on the fourth Friday, June 28. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
Benefit Yard Sale Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church on Highway 9 North in Nixburg. Sale items will be in the fellowship house with some stuff outside. This is a fundraising event to help support the church.
The same day down Highway 9 in Jenny’s General parking lot will be a yard sale by the members of the local rebel homesteader’s group. So Saturday is a day to get out and get some deals and visit with your local community.
Equality Methodist Church Men’s Community Breakfast is this Sunday, Father’s Day, June 16, at 8 a.m. in the fellowship hall. All men of EMC and our Equality community are encouraged to attend. Free breakfast, wonderful fellowship, food for our souls, as well as a delicious breakfast prepared by our men of the church.
Thank you, Mr. Ellie McKissick, and the volunteers who prepare Men’s Breakfast! Equality Methodist Church encourages you to stay for Sunday School at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m.
Equality Volunteer Fire Department holds bimonthly training on the first and third Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the fire department building. Next training is June 17. Come out and join in and find out how you can support our much needed EVFD!
Equality Neighborhood Watch meetings are held the fourth Thursday of every month. Come join us June 27 for information on what is happening around the area from the sheriff’s report to first responder report and all the community announcements with food and fellowship included.
Equality Volunteer Fire Department sponsored Bingo is on the last Saturday of each month, this month being held on June 29 at 4 p.m. Cards are $1 each, and all proceeds go to support our volunteer fire department, so come out for a fun evening while helping out the community.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
