The president finally decided after almost four years that he could issue some type of regulations on illegal immigrants crossing our borders. Not an Executive Order, but a “proclamation” was issued to put supposed stricter controls on how many and who could come into our country under an asylum status. The problem is that the context did absolutely nothing except make the problem worse, except it does show us more on how easy it is to come right in!
The new rules claim that “migrants” (really illegal immigrants) cannot be granted asylum if U.S. officials think the southern border is “overwhelmed.” Okay – so just who are these officials and what is their definition of “overwhelmed”? The Secretary of Homeland Security continues to tell us the border is closed, but now even some Democrats are finally acknowledging that’s not exactly the case.
President Biden continues to insist the problem is that Republicans will not pass legislation to strengthen immigration requirements and he now has to act on his own to “gain control of the border.” In another statement he has said, “I believe immigration has always been the lifeblood of America.” Notice he did not specify “legal immigration.” I’m not really sure of what the guidelines have been, but the new ones don’t sound very strong either. All someone has to say in order to receive asylum is they are in fear of returning to their home country. Basically the same as an American who kills someone and then says, “I was in fear for my life.”
This proclamation also supposedly sets limits on the number of “migrants” who can cross each day. These orders don’t actually go into effect until 2,500 people have been allowed entry on a given day (legally or illegally?). The last time the numbers were that low were in January of 2021 – when Biden took charge! And, it’s said to be the cumulative total from the entire border and not at each entry location. Boy, that will take some communication!
One huge change that has occurred since President Biden took charge is that the nationalities of these illegal immigrants now include people from many of the countries who are our enemies – China, Syria, Iraq, Russia, etc. And they are now mainly single adult men instead of family units. And where are these people coming up with the money to pay to get here?
Some are traveling through several countries on their way and then they have to pay someone to actually get them to and across the border. I had been under the idea that these were “poor” people coming to find the American dream.
The new “migrants” we are seeing are well-dressed with luggage – not backpacks or grocery bags. Very few that we see coming in look like they have walked hundreds or thousands of miles to get here. They look like they have recently bathed and put on clean clothes and shoes. Who is providing them with transportation? There are just too many unanswered questions.
I agree that our country is built on “immigration.” Somewhere in each of our family’s genealogy we can find an ancestor who came to this country from somewhere else even before we became the United States of America. But there were immigration rules put in place as far back as 1798.
Even before that, in 1790 after we became an independent country, there were guidelines put in place on who would be recognized as an “American.” Those guidelines and rules were strengthened and/or changed through the years after Ellis Island was established in 1892 as the major immigration station to process people wanting to come into our country. They had to prove they were healthy, had the ability to support themselves financially and had no criminal background
I wonder how the officials were able to determine that way back then. Unfortunately, none of those minimum requirements are still in effect now. We now have people coming across the border with diseases we had eradicated but are now being spread again, with no means of supporting themselves legally so they are depending on OUR support, and many are gang members/fugitives/convicted murderers or rapists. And our Border Control is instructed to just pass them through.
On this one issue alone, I hope people will realize how dangerous all of this is for our futures. The economy is already closing down businesses that can’t even provide jobs for the Americans who are willing to work much less these people who have no work permits OR will take the jobs Americans won’t do. These “immigrants” are receiving taxpayer-funded benefits that even Americans cannot get – healthcare, cell phones, housing, food stamps, etc. Why??
I do understand legal immigration when the people are vetted for their ability to provide for themselves, have an employment background in an area we need employees for, are willing to learn our language, and are interested in becoming citizens of our great country. But nothing boils my blood more than people who will not learn our language and assimilate into our values and culture. I am proud to know many people who are first generation Americans and come from families who came here legally to become naturalized Americans. THESE people are the lifeblood of America – and the illegal immigrants drain the blood we all work so hard for.
Obviously, this is all MY opinion. I have only touched the fringes of our immigration history and regulations through the years. It has become more guided by politics and political correctness instead of the needs of our country.
Patriotic Americans understand the true meaning of “America First.” Do you?
