Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Things have been going much better for me, prioritizing myself and my family obligations, including a trip for a graduation celebration.
Then I got hit with a major migraine that shortened our trip, but was best for me. I spent Sunday in bed. I think the migraine is in response to all the stress that has been building up lately. Moving forward, if it causes stress it needs to be eliminated from my life.
There has been progress at the homestead. While we were gone a close friend and fellow homesteader’s husband came over and cleared the back acreage and put in a creek crossing. He left some mature healthy trees just as I wanted, and we will be planting grass. So far it looks wonderful, and we see the full rolling slopes of our property down to the creek and back up to the fence line from our kitchen window.
Now I need to focus my attention on the house. The help I was receiving from a local handyman is no longer available as he got a promotion on his regular job which has more demands on his time with training and whatnot, so he is taking a break from handyman work.
However, with the grandson in a summer camp program my husband has more time available, and hopefully the two of us can get a lot more done this summer, working inside on rainy days, outside when dry. And maybe some community members might drop by to help, volunteer like. LOL. One can dream.
Speaking of volunteering, remember our volunteer fire department. There are many ways to help, and if just curious you can attend their bimonthly training on the first and third Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the fire department building. Next training is June 17.
Coosa Live has Open Mic Night on the second Friday, June 14; Karaoke Night on the third Friday, June 21; and a live performance on the fourth Friday, June 28.
While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
Equality Neighborhood Watch meetings are held the fourth Thursday of every month. Come join us June 27 for information on what is happening around the area from the sheriff’s report to first responder report and all the community announcements with food and fellowship included.
Equality Volunteer Fire Department sponsored Bingo is on the last Saturday of each month, this month being held on June 29 at 4 p.m. Cards are $1 each, and all proceeds go to support our volunteer fire department, so come out for a fun evening while helping out the community.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
