A two-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. Saturday, May 18, has claimed the life of a Cullman man.
The pedestrian, Martin Rodriguez-Ramirez, 29, who was in the roadway, was fatally injured when he was struck by the 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Carlos H. Almaguer-Perez, 22, of Hollywood, Florida.
The Freightliner then struck the 2018 GMC Acadia that Rodriguez-Ramirez had initially been driving but had crashed into a guardrail. Rodriguez-Ramirez was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Jorge Luis-Almanza, 31, of Jackson, Mississippi, a passenger in the Acadia, was injured and transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for medical treatment.
The crash occurred on Interstate 59 near the 115-mile marker, approximately one mile east of Hueytown, in Jefferson County.
Nothing further is available as troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
