The Berman’s World History Museum provides an opportunity for ninth grade world history students to “take a trip around the world!” right here in Alabama. The students enjoyed the two floors of displays and five exhibits as they completed a scavenger hunt memory book looking for items they learned about in class throughout the year. Once the students found the items they had to sketch them and then fill in the blanks to complete the captions in their scavenger hunt memory book.
Student favorites usually include Leonardo da Vinci’s leaf gun from Renaissance Italy, the Persian scimitar and the largest piece of the U.S.S. Arizona outside of Hawaii.
Pictured are Javarious Wilson and Amari Dawson who are sketching a trench and Ethan Cosby and DJ Cardwell who have found Leonardo daVinci’s leaf gun.
You know it is a good field trip when you overhear students say things like, “This was so much fun; I can’t believe this stuff is in Alabama.”
Two students even mentioned separately that they got a funny feeling while in the room with the piece of the U.S.S. Arizona, a common comment made by people who visit the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. It was a fun, culminating event for modern world history students who maintained a 70-plus average.
