Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Happy birthday to all the May babies! Also, remember Mother’s Day is coming up on May 12. May is a busy month with Mother’s Day, graduations, end of school, and Memorial Day.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department will have its monthly Bingo on Saturday, May 18, at 6:30. Come out and have a fun time while providing support for them. They also sell concessions.
Also, the annual Richville Volunteer Fire Department Boston Butt sale will be available for pickup on Saturday, May 25, from 7 to 9 a.m. They are $35 each. Be sure and see a member to purchase your ticket. They are delicious!
The Old Rock Jail continues to be open each Sunday from 2 to 4 in May and June except for Memorial Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. We will be closed for the months of July and August, opening back up the second Sunday in September until October 13.
I am writing this as I complete an adventure of a lifetime. I left home on March 26 flying to Brisbane, Australia, where I boarded a cruise ship for a couple of days in Australia. Then on April 1, we left Brisbane and headed for a 31-day cruise to Seattle by way of Guam, Japan and Alaska, arriving May 1.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the trip, but I am very thankful to be home. I saw many different places and things that I had only read about, but the old saying “there’s no place like home” is true. So, I am thankful for the opportunity, but so glad to see Coosa County!
So, my Bible verse this week is about seizing opportunities. Ecclesiastes 9:10 reads, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.”
We only have a limited time to be here on earth. No one knows how long or when our life ends. While we need to be careful about how we live, not making foolish or unwise decisions, we should be open to opportunities that come our way.
Praying for God’s guidance in all we do is essential to our Christian lives. However, we should be just as diligent to seize the opportunity to live for Christ as we do to do all the other things in life. We should put Christ first, but that does not mean to exclude things in our lives that bring us pleasure. My trip has been a pleasure that I will remember.
So thankful for good reports from some of the sick in our community. Several are recovering from surgeries that will require time to heal, but they are moving on a positive note, so that is a praise. Our prayer list at church has many names that are suffering with cancer, as well as other physical and spiritual needs.
Please pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
