The Coosa County Career Tech Center (CCCTC) is celebrating a great Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) competition season, but they are not quite done yet. The season, which kicked off for CCCTC in February with our JAG students advancing from the district competition to state, was quickly followed up with FCCLA’s A’Mayia Jackson receiving a bronze medal in the state STAR Event for her Fashion Design and Construction project in early March.
JAG’s Creative Decision Making Team then brought home the state win that advanced them to nationals in St. Louis, Missouri, last week, where they finished eighth place in the nation among approximately 40 competing teams.
Coach Thomas’ FBLA members also competed in state competition last week in Mobile, where Rachel Reams and Rebekah Burton both took third place, qualifying them for nationals that will be held in Orlando, Florida, in late June in the high school division.
Perla Morales (not pictured) and Ayden Williams both placed first in their FBLA events at the middle school level and will be advancing to the national event in Orlando, as well.
Our Auto Services’ SkillsUSA Team competed this week in Mobile and placed first in the Career Pathway Showcase Event and secured themselves a trip to nationals to be held in late June in Atlanta, Georgia. SkillsUSA team members who presented at the competition were Emily Thomas, Emma Green and Daniel Weathers, who each received a $2,000 scholarship to any ACCS (Alabama Community College System) in addition to the opportunity to compete at the national competition. We look forward to supporting Perla, Ayden, Rachel, Rebekah, Emily, Emma, and Daniel as they continue to prepare for the next level.
Special thanks to all of the CTE faculty who helped prepare their students for competition through rigorous classroom and lab instruction. Our CTE students who participated in these events would not be able to wow the judges had it not been for these dedicated professionals: Lisa Worley (FCCLA advisor), Jarrod Washington (SKillsUSA advisor), Brett Thomas (FBLA advisor), and Debbie Phillips (JAG specialist) or our Career Coach Keslie Garrett, who also had a huge hand in helping students prepare resumes and provided feedback on students’ practice runs.
CTSOs are Career Tech professional student organizations that are embedded into all CTE curriculum. We encourage everyone to find a CTE program that relates to their interest and challenge themselves by participating in a district and state competition.
If you need help deciding which CTE program is right for you, please reach out to our career coach at kgarrett@coosaschools.org or CTE director at hhamby@coosaschools.org. CTE programs have so much to offer, and we want to make sure all Central students have a chance to showcase the wonderful things happening at CCCTC.
Thank you to CCCTC Director Hester Hamby for sharing information and pictures. We are so proud of our students, and we know they will represent themselves, their school and their community well during their upcoming competitions.
