Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I have always been told that you make plans and God laughs. I had plans to relax, spend time with neighbors, stain some cabinet doors, and garden. None of that happened.
Grandson needed to be cared for, work meetings ran hours late, rain kept us indoors, and many other little things that just kept plans from being executed. But this is life, isn’t it? And we just have to adapt and roll with the punches.
I will try again this week, but must keep in mind that my schedule already has live music performance at Coosa Live and Equality First Saturday. But I will get the rest of the outside of our house painted even if it is just a small piece this week. Baby steps, do what I can until it is finished; hopefully by the end of summer it will be finished. And just so folks know, I started painting my house before our neighbors, who purchased the old Penton place, repainted theirs. They just have a bigger budget and hire the work out. I am not trying to keep up with the neighbors, just finishing what we started.
Tonight, April 26, is live performance by Mike Saunders from Wetumpka and Roger Vines of Sylacauga Song Writers Association at Coosa Live (formerly known as Equality Performing Arts Center). Come enjoy an evening out enjoying live music. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
Please join in on Saturday, April 27, at 4 p.m. at the Equality Volunteer Fire Department Hall on Highway 9 for a fun night of Bingo. This is a fund-raising event to support the Equality Volunteer Fire Department. Games are $1 a card and lots of fun, and there are concession sales, as well. All proceeds support the EVFD, so come join the fun.
Next Saturday, May 4, is Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s First Saturday fundraising event. They sure could use more baked goods donated for the bake sale, as well as your slightly used items for their rummage sale. Come join the breakfast for a donation at 8 a.m. and lunch starting at 11 a.m. Bake Sale and Rummage Sale both run the entirety of the day or until items are sold out. Come support our wonderful volunteer fire department.
Also, it is Memorial Day Boston Butt and Rib Sale time to help support our volunteer fire department’s efforts. Please contact the Equality Volunteer Fire Department to purchase your ticket for either a Boston Butt or rib or both. They appreciate all those that help support all their efforts.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
