Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
I hope everyone went out and voted on Tuesday. Congratulations to the winner, which either of the two running I think will do a great job. I turn my column in on Tuesday by noon, so I don’t know who won when writing this.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a Crappie Tournament on April 27. It will be at Lake Mitchell – Barrett’s Landing. Entry fee is $100 per boat. For more information or a form, see a member of the fire department.
Union Baptist Church will host a gospel singing tomorrow night, April 20, beginning at 5 p.m. The group Promised Land will be the featured singers.
The Coosa County Historical Society meeting scheduled for Sunday, April 28, has been postponed. Announcement will be made when it is rescheduled. However, the Old Rock Jail continues to be open each Sunday from 2 to 4 in April, May and June except for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. We will be closed for the months of July and August, opening back up the second Sunday in September until October 13.
It’s hard to believe that April is over halfway through. It’s prom time for Central High School. Soon it’ll be May with Mother’s Day and graduation, then the end of school for this year. Also, May brings the annual Richville Volunteer Fire Department Boston Butt sale. They will be available for pickup on the Saturday before Memorial Day for $35. Be sure and see a member to purchase your ticket. They are delicious!
My scripture this week is from the Song of Solomon 2:11-12, which reads, “For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.”
What a wonderful thought for this time of year. Gardens are planted or in the process, flowers are blooming, and the birds are singing. We should be just as joyful and happy that we are alive to enjoy all that God has done for us.
I know that there are many that are suffering with pain and health issues, as well as those that have lost family and friends. But, we need to search our hearts for the positive that comes from a situation. It’s not easy, as we feel sadness, but knowing that God is in control helps. So, as we listen to the birds around us and see the flowers blooming, try to lighten your heart with the knowledge that God is with us to help us through our burdens in life.
Our prayer list at church has many names that are suffering with cancer, as well as other physical and spiritual needs. Please pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
