Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department had a good turnout for Bingo last Saturday night. They want to thank everyone who comes out and supports them.
The volunteer tax service for the county has been very good this year. We had many new filers, as well as those that returned. Hopefully we will be able to offer this service again next year.
We are always looking for people to help prepare the taxes, working in Rockford and/or Alexander City. If you are interested, drop me an email, and I’ll get in touch for training in early January for the upcoming season. You can work as many or as few hours as you want.
Don’t forget to go vote this Tuesday, April 16, for the circuit clerk office. This is the only race on the Republican ballot. There were no runoff elections on the Democratic ballots. So, if you voted Republican or not at all in the March primary, you can vote in the runoff election. Good luck to both candidates.
The Coosa County Historical Society began their opening season for the Old Rock Jail. We will be open each Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in April, May and June except for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. We will be closed for the months of July and August, opening back up the second Sunday in September until October 13.
The Historical Society will meet on Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Senior Center. I encourage everyone to come out and support the history of our county.
Even with the cooler temperatures this past week, it is feeling and looking like spring. Flowers and shrubs are starting to bloom out in yards, as well as the woods we see on the highways. Many people planted their gardens on Good Friday, while some already have rows sprouting.
Spring is one of my favorite times of the year. I definitely don’t have a green thumb, so usually I’m replacing flowers each year about this time, but I enjoy seeing all the flowers.
So, my scripture this week is Deuteronomy 21:2, which reads, “Let my teaching fall like rain and my word settle like dew, like gentle rain on new grass and showers on tender plants.”
A major theme in Deuteronomy is God’s faithfulness teaching us to obey and be faithful. Having faith is reflected by us as we plant our gardens and flowers each spring. Just as we have faith that those seeds and plants will grow, so should our belief that God is faithful and always there for us.
However, just as we must water, if not enough rain, and fertilize and work those plants and gardens, so must we work on our faith in God. If we never talk through prayer to Him and don’t feed our spirit by attending church and reading our Bibles, then our faith will suffer, also. I encourage you to read your Bibles, have daily prayer time and worship with God.
Our prayer list at church has many names that are suffering with cancer, as well as other physical and spiritual needs. Please pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
