April 13

New homesteading classes will be held twice monthly to help foster meaningful connections while learning how to integrate traditional practices with modern sustainability. Classes will be held at the Equality Volunteer Fire Department lodge adjacent to Jenny’s General Store. The next class will cover composting and gardening, and it will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13. The class is free, but attendees are encouraged to make a donation for the fire department towards the use of power and water. April 15

The monthly meeting for the Coosa County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will be held on Monday, April 15, at 10 a.m. at the District Office located at 226 Coosa County Road 157 in Hanover.

 

April 18

First responder training will be held in Coosa, Talladega and surrounding counties for mental health training: trauma informed care for first responders. April classes include a local class held April 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with lunch provided at the Coosa County E-911 building in Rockford. April 20

The Coosa County High School Alumni Association will have its annual banquet on April 20. It will be held at the Rockford Event Center (high school gymnasium). Social hour will begin at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Please bring a covered dish to share. Dress is comfortable and casual. When you arrive, please sign in. The class of 1974 will all be honored this year. We hope you will make plans to attend, and we look forward to seeing each of you.

Third Saturday Trade Day in Millerville will be held Saturday, April 20, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bibb Graves Community Center. Shops open inside will have toys, clothes, books, flowers, dishes, desks, tools, jewelry, collectibles, and more. No charge for outside setup for vendors for yard sale items, arts and crafts, or swap meet items. Food items and soft drinks available to purchase. For more information call 205-317-7798.

 

April 27

Mule Day at the Weogufka Center will be Saturday, April 27, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Join us for a fun day of music, food, vendors, mules, Children’s Farm Center, and so much more! Admission is $5 per vehicle. For vendor or camper space call Melvin Palmer at 256-249-8885. Sausage biscuits will be sold beginning at 7 a.m. We will also be selling our fried apple pies!

 

April 28

The Coosa County Historical Society will meet on Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Senior Center. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the history of our county.

Beekeeping day on the farm: Dive into the wonderful world of beekeeping – hands in the hive! This is a one-day class offered and taught by Alabama Master Beekeeper and 2022 Alabama Beekeeper of the Year Allyson Andrews. The class will be held April 28 from 1 to 5 p.m. A beekeeping equipment vendor will be present, and nucs will also be available for purchase. Class fee is $50, payable via check, cash, or Venmo. May 4

AltaPointe will host the “Stepping up Together for Mental Health” event on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Blue Bell Park in Sylacauga. The event highlights May being Mental Health Awareness Month, and this event will be for people of all ages. There will be live entertainment, food vendors, children’s activities, and numerous agencies that serve Talladega and surrounding counties will be setting up and passing out resources and information. Agencies interested in participating in this event are asked to RSVP to pself@altapointe.org or call 334-580-7955 for more information on participating.

 

May 14

Empowered to Conquer’s Annual Night of Vision will be held at 6 p.m. May 14 at the Weogufka Family Worship Center, located at 20771 Coosa County Road 29, Weogufka, 35151. Join us in celebrating 15 years of building hope in the hearts of students. RSVP by April 30 at www.empoweredtoconquer.org.

 

May 18

Save the date, May 18, Walk-A-Thon/Old Fashion May Day. Please join the Coosa County Training/J. D. Thompson H.S. Alumni members for a day of family fun. Event details will be published soon.

 

May 25

The Equality Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its Memorial Day Fundraiser Boston Butt and Rib Sale. Boston butts are $35 each, and a rack of ribs is $30. The delivery date will be May 25, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the lodge next to Quality Food Mart in Equality. Can pick up Friday night. Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly

The Friends of Flagg Mountain host a potluck dinner (bring something to share) with entertainment by local musicians on the First Friday of every month. Bring a chair and join the fun and fellowship with dinner starting at 6 p.m. For more information, see the Friends of Flagg Facebook page or contact Jodi McDade at 334-651-5226 (leave a message).

The Coosa County Republican Party meets the fourth Monday of every month at the Coosa County E-911 building in Rockford with refreshments at 6 p.m. and the meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information email coosacountyrepublicans@gmail.com.

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

The Coosa County Historical Society will be opening the Old Rock Jail beginning Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 4. The jail will be open each Sunday in April, May and June except for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. It will be closed for the months of July and August, opening back up the second Sunday in September until October 13.

 

Quarterly

The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
