A recent Rockford traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a Sylacauga man for a drug distribution charge.
On March 24, Coosa County deputies Payton and Overton conducted a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 231 in Rockford.
Upon approaching, they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. They proceeded to conduct a search of the vehicle and found a crystal-like substance, as well as a burnt amount of a green leafy substance in a hidden compartment of the vehicle.
Ultimately the discovery led to the arrest of 50-year-old Joseph Edson Gray. He was charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, specifically methamphetamine.
The substance found in the car weighed 8.01 grams. As such, it was considered unlawful distribution by weight.
Gray was arrested March 24, and his bond was set at $5,000. He was released on bond on March 26 to await trial.
Anyone who suspects or observes illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
