The Town of Kellyton has conducted routine business over the last two months, primarily including its seasonal lawn care contract.
At last month’s meeting Mayor Johnny Sharpe stated that the town’s then-current lawn care service bid had expired and that the town would need to place bid notices to accept sealed bids submitted in time to be opened and discussed at the March meeting.
At that time it was stated that the bids must contain pricing to cut and maintain the municipal grounds, including the ball field and walking track, as well as weed eating and blowing off the trimmings. This generally results in the grass being cut every two weeks.
At the meeting it was said that service would begin in March and go through December 2025. It was also stated that anyone submitting a bid must have and maintain their own equipment.
The council unanimously approved posting bid notices for the town’s lawn care service. It was then stated at this month’s meeting of the Kellyton Town Council that five sealed bids had been received for consideration.
The bids received included Nashburn for $375 for the first cut and $320 per cut thereafter, Southern Grass with $650 per cut, By His Stripes with $550 per cut, RC Landscaping with $220 per cut, and All in One with $500 per cut.
The council opened and reviewed each bid and discussed as needed. The council voiced that it would accept the lowest bid received, but that if the town is not satisfied with the work done then it would move on to the second lowest bid received.
After review and discussion, the council unanimously approved awarding the lawn care service contract through December 2025 to RC Landscaping.
At both meetings Mayor Sharpe also reminded the council members that their Statement of Economic Interest needed to be completed and submitted by April 30, with them having the option to complete the form online or with hard copies printed by Town Clerk Karen Keel.
During its February meeting Sharpe also presented the council with a suggestion to purchase a smart TV to be mounted in the clerk’s office so that she can monitor the cameras while working to be aware of anyone coming onto the municipal property grounds.
Following discussion, the council unanimously approved the purchase a smart TV costing less than $500 to be mounted in the clerk’s office.
During this month’s meeting it was reported that the TV had been purchased for the town clerk’s office to help monitor the security camera system and that it just needed to be installed.
The next regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Kellyton Town Council will be held at 6 p.m. April 2.
