Once again this year Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama Inc., or VCCA, partnered with the Coosa County Extension Office and Chamber of Commerce to sponsor a free income tax assistance program.
The program is open to all eligible individuals, regardless of if they live in Coosa County. Since February 7, certified and trained tax preparers have been providing tax assistance and electronic filing of income tax forms for free in Rockford weekly.
However, the program is coming to a close for this tax season. VCCA will stop accepting new tax returns as of this Wednesday, April 3.
The VCCA will be open in Rockford on April 10, but that will only be to allow clients to sign their return.
Those still needing to take advantage of the free tax prep have one more chance to do so locally at Rockford Methodist Church, located at 9916 U.S. Highway 231. VCCA is stationed there from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Walk-ins are welcome, but priority is given to those with appointments. To make an appointment for the Rockford location, call VCCA in Alexander City at 256-234-0347 and state that the appointment is for the Rockford location.
Individuals can also call that number to make an appointment at the Alexander City location if they so wish.
This is a drop-off service only, so visits are expected to only take about 20 minutes. Individuals will then be contacted to sign their return, which is electronically filed.
The free service is available for those whose annual income is $62,000 or less for any age individual, or for individuals who are 60 years and older with any amount of income.
For more information, contact VCCA at 256-234-0347.
