Last Saturday was the first of a new series of homesteading classes being held twice monthly. The first class taught participants how to can meat, with videos from the class also being available on social media. These homesteading-themed classes are intended to help foster meaningful connections while learning how to integrate traditional practices with modern sustainability, helping individuals learn to be more self sufficient. The twice-monthly classes are held at the Equality Volunteer Fire Department lodge, adjacent to Jenny’s General Store along Highway 9. The next class will be held Saturday, April 13, at 10 a.m., and it will cover composting and gardening. The classes are free, but attendees are encouraged to make a donation to the fire department towards the use of power and water. In addition to learning from these classes, those who would like to bring items to barter or seeds and plants to swap are encouraged to do so.
