Coosa County’s Canvassing Board and party representatives met at noon Tuesday to review provisional ballots and certify election results.
Judge of Probate Richard Dean, who is a member of the Canvassing Board, reported that there were only three provisional ballots cast in the county for last Tuesday’s primary election. Ultimately none of the three were counted as they were not eligible votes.
Dean stated that one provisional Republican ballot was cast in Hanover. It was not counted because the voter registered after the February 19 deadline.
The other two provisional ballots, one for the Democratic Party and one for the Republican Party, were both cast in Ray. Those were not counted because in both instances the voter was registered in another county, and there was no evidence of changing their voter registration to Coosa County.
As such, Dean stated that there were no provisional ballots to count and add to the county’s totals. Therefore, the numbers reported in last week’s edition regarding the county’s election results remain the same.
After reviewing the provisional ballots cast, Dean stated that everyone had seen the results and asked if there were any questions, but there were none.
Following review, the Canvassing Board; including Dean, Circuit Clerk Anita Spivey and Sheriff Michael Howell; signed and certified the provisional ballot count.
With no questions from the party representatives, each party then signed and certified the county’s official results.
The representatives who signed following Tuesday’s provisional ballot review were Chair Vanessa Owens and Secretary Brandon Davis for the Coosa County Democratic Party and Vice Chair Joe Ficquette and Secretary Tasha Howell for the Coosa County Republican Party.
Coosa County will have a runoff election for the Republican Party primary, with Jamey Johnson and Matthew Reams being in the runoff for circuit clerk. That election will be held April 16, with the general election to be held November 5.
