Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
I write this on the eve of the election! While there’s not a lot on the ballots, there are some key decisions to be made.
The Republican ballot has the circuit clerk race with three candidates, and all ballots have the referendum for the ambulance service. I hope we have a good turnout.
Also, the probability of a run-off is high. Not only locally, but several state offices have more than two candidates.
Next week, Friday, March 15, is the Ides of March, which traditionally is a time we are supposed to beware! So, what is the meaning of this? “Ides” refers to the middle of the month and marks the first day of the full moon in every month, but is also associated with misfortune and doom.
Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C. on this date in the ancient Roman calendar. He had been warned that his life was in danger because of some bad omens. He was so certain of his security in his position that he ignored all warnings.
Therefore, March 15 is now considered an unlucky date if you believe in superstitions. There have been other incidents over the years that have strengthened the belief that it is a day of misfortune.
Next week, I’ll have details about the Richville Neighborhood Watch meeting this past week. The next Richville Volunteer Fire Department bingo night is on April 6 at 6:30 pm.
You can still get your taxes done locally at the Rockford Methodist Church on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. While walk-ins are welcome, you can call 256-234-0347 to make an appointment. Be sure you tell them it’s for the Rockford location.
Since this was election week, I thought I would share I Corinthians 9:24 which reads, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”
We need to live our lives with a purpose, not to win our salvation or gain heaven, but to gain the approval of God. Just as a runner gives his all to win, we should do the same to do our best for the glory of God. I’m so thankful I didn’t have to race others to win my salvation, but know that accepting Jesus as my Savior was all I needed to do.
Pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
