A marine-related incident that occurred at approximately 3:17 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, has claimed the life of a Sylacauga man.
Derek V. Egnor, 56, was critically injured while operating a 1997 Alum Craft bass boat on Lay Lake near the Glovers Ferry boat ramp in Talladega County.
While operating the vessel an unsecured anchor hanging from the side of the boat got caught beneath the water’s surface. The anchor line tightened, and the boat slowed rapidly.
Eventually, the anchor broke free, came out of the water and struck Egnor. Egnor was transported to Citizens Hospital in Talladega where he succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Nothing further is available as troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division continue to investigate.
