Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Well, it seems I ruffled a few feathers with my opinion on the new ambulance service, and that was not my intention. It was based on past experience and my own personal opinion. To be honest, Equality is so small and on the border with Elmore. In fact some areas of Equality are in Elmore County, and we are generally overlooked and forgotten it seems (again my personal opinion).
Just to be clear, I have nothing against any existing service, and it is my opinion that the new service is an enhancement of existing services, not a replacement. Our county is rich in many ways, but is poor when it comes to revenue. Most of the land is forestry, so there is low property tax revenue, and from my experience folks drive to other counties to shop, so there is low sales tax revenue. Thank goodness for volunteers, grant writers and folks that think outside the box to make things happen in our county. I appreciate them all and all their efforts to serve Coosa County as a whole.
In fact, from what I was told Kellyton/Goodwater ambulance service has been a volunteer service from day one. Their ambulance gets paid just like any other, through insurance claims. This is very commendable that they have a community base of qualified and willing folks who give of themselves to serve theirs and surrounding communities and should be recognized for all they have and continue to do for Coosa County. My hope, and prayer, is that as Coosa County moves forward, future legislation can be introduced to expand their service because our county has too many square miles to cover, and we need them.
Jenny’s General continues to expand their inventory selections with more Amish products, including cheese, noodles and cider. Amish roll butter was on the list; however, there seems to be a production issue holding up orders, but hopefully soon. Cabinets that hold all the bulk dried herbs have gone out for repair, but hopefully will be back in the store and fully stocked soon.
This will likely be my last reminder about Coosa Fancy Organic Farm’s CSAs. The CSAs consist of 10 weeks of freshly harvested, organically grown seasonal produce! Spring Session: March 23 – May 25 and Summer Session: June 15 – August 17. You can also purchase their spring and summer CSA together for 15% off! (That’s three FREE weeks!) Call 205-552-4592 or sign up on their website at https://coosa-fancy.com/shop.
You missed a great performance at Coosa Live last Friday. Peter K. Muzik; professional guitarist whose repertoire consists of all original modern style, smooth jazz, Latin, funk with an edge; drove down from Huntsville to perform, and it was wonderful. There is no event for this Friday, March 1, as the first Friday of every month is date night for Rodger and me.
Saturday, March 2, is Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s First Saturday fund raising event. Come join the breakfast for a donation at 8 a.m. and lunch starting at 11 a.m. Bake Sale and Rummage Sale both run the entirety of the day or until items are sold out. Come support our wonderful volunteer fire department.
