Union Square News
Ruby Johnson

Bryson Carden, 11 years old, is very excited about this big buck he shot recently.
Butch and I enjoyed a quiet Presidents Day moment. He was the president for a day, and I took his advice and listened. Wow, that was hard! But we had a wonderful day with our fur babies and spent a moment with our grandson Chesley late in the day. We hope everyone else had a great day, as well.
Rockford Church of God was on fire last Sunday, with many blessings and many people attending. Pastor Hill is still burning for the Lord and his people of God.
I read a column in “The Coosa County News” paper in the February 9 edition by Pastor David Bass of Rockford Church of Christ, “Searching the Scriptures.” This column was titled “What kind of preaching is needed today.” Well, Butch and I were blessed last Sunday. We got a double portion of needed preaching, first from Pastor Chris Hill’s morning service and Pastor Bobby Montgomery’s evening service.
When I read Pastor Bass’s column on this subject, I thought to myself, “I want some needed preaching, and for others, as well,” and God granted my wish!
First, let me give some words of scripture from Pastor Bass’s column. In Ezekiel 18:20, the prophets and preachers of old told the people what they needed to hear rather than what they wanted to hear. As a preacher of God, John was not afraid to preach the truth, even if it was not pleasant and made people angry as it did King Herod.
In Mark 6:17-28 he boldly preached about sin, righteousness, repentance, and the judgment to come. His preaching was to the point and very powerful. Today the truth must be preached without fear or compromise. The truth must always be preached and error exposed.
Faithful Bible preaching should cause all of us to search our hearts and consciences. Good hearts will repent; evil ones will harden. In Galatians 4:16, Paul asked, “Am I become your enemy because I tell you the truth?”
I am so glad that we have a pastor at Rockford Church of God, Pastor Chris Hill, who will tell you the truth. If you have an issue with it, read the word for yourself. And I know “Good Grove” members do not have a problem with their pastor, Bobby Montgomery, for telling the truth. This young man of God went to the mountain of the truth on “worship,” and I mean worshiping God, not your car, house, or anything else other than God.
He preached from Exodus 15:20-22 and Psalms 121:18, “From Singing to Worship.” Singing inspires worship, but it must be real. Songs are from experience. All you need is a memory to worship. That is so true! Sometimes I am driving and think of something God did for me, and I begin to worship Him. It’s just me and God.
He told us the difference between “a” leader and “the” leader. Pastor Montgomery was on it, and nothing but the truth! It was a great service for Men and Women’s Day at Bethlehem Baptist Church, where Pastor Jesse Blackmon is overseer.
Children’s Corner
Bryson Carden, 11 years old, is doing what he loves best, catching the biggest fish and shooting the biggest buck.
We are praying for all of our ill loved ones, hospitals, nursing homes, and thanking God for all the ones He has healed. We are also praying for Ronnie Joiner and for the family of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Dowdell who passed away February 18. Her visitation is today and funeral tomorrow. More on it next week.
Happy birthday to all February babies.
“God in His love, made man and put him in a garden; man in disobedience, hate and sin has created a jungle for himself.”
Read Genesis 2:8.
