February 7-April 10
Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama Inc., or VCCA, along with the Coosa County Extension Office and Chamber of Commerce, is sponsoring a free income tax assistance program. Certified and trained tax preparers will provide tax assistance and electronic filing of income tax forms free of charge in Rockford every Wednesday beginning February 7 and going through April 10. VCCA will have preparers stationed at Rockford Methodist Church, located at 9916 U.S. Highway 231, each week from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free service is available for those whose income is $62,000 or less or for individuals who are 60 years and older with any amount of income. Walk-ins are welcome; however, appointments will take priority. To make an appointment for the Rockford location, call VCCA in Alexander City at 256-234-0347. February 24
Coosa Upward co-ed T-ball and baseball registration: Open to public, private and home school youth K4-6th grade. Registration will be held February 24, from 9:30-12 at Keith Bullard Stadium at Central Coosa. Registration cost is $50 February 24 and $80 after February 24. Monthly breakfast returns to West Coosa Senior Center! The West Coosa Senior Center in Stewartville will host breakfast on Saturday, February 24, from 7-10 a.m. at the center, located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Sylacauga, 35151 (the old Stewartville School). Breakfast is $6 per plate with choice of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravies, and more! Dine in or call ahead at 256-249-2024 to carry out. Donations appreciated!
February 26
The monthly meeting for the Coosa County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will be held on Monday, February 26, at10 a.m. at the District Office, located at 226 Coosa County Road 157, in Hanover.
February 27
On Tuesday, February 27, at 6:30 p.m. there will be an informative meeting regarding the possibility of a tag increase to help fund a new EMS service. Many have expressed a desire to know more about this matter before having to vote on March 5 regarding this matter. This meeting will be held at the Kellyton Civic Complex cafeteria and will be open to the public. We have reached out to the county commissioner of the Kellyton district and have asked that if he is unable to attend another commissioner attend so they might be able to answer questions or concerns from the public regarding this matter and receive needed information prior to voting on March 5.
Weekly
The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. The Friends of Flagg Mountain host a potluck dinner (bring something to share) with entertainment by local musicians on the First Friday of every month. The Coosa County Republican Party meets the fourth Monday of every month at the Coosa County E-911 building in Rockford with refreshments at 6 p.m. and the meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information email coosacountyrepublicans@gmail.com.

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

Beginning the second Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. Dana Sharpe, R.N., will hold informative meetings to cover medical issues and things to help prevent these problems. She will also cover resources available to citizens needing assistance in certain areas. Refreshments will be served and prizes given out. She will also cover Medicare related questions if you should have any. These monthly meetings will be held at the Kellyton Civic Complex Cafeteria, located at 145 Church Street in Kellyton. The first meeting will be held February 13, and the topic for this first meeting is Heart Disease since February is Heart Awareness Month. Make plans to attend. Quarterly
The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
