Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day. Even with the rain, we had a good turnout for our banquet at Providence Sunday night. The food was delicious, and everything was so pretty. Thanks to all the ones who organized, decorated, and the youth who served.
We got a lot of rain over the weekend. Many creeks and ponds were out or almost out of their banks. Some rainfall numbers I saw on Facebook from around here were 4 to 6 inches. That’s a lot of rain in a short time frame.
Monday is a federal holiday, so government offices, banks and post offices will be closed. While it is called “Presidents’ Day” most often, it is officially still listed as “Washington’s Birthday.” Originally it was celebrated on his actual birthday, February 22. Then in 1968, when Congress changed most holidays to Mondays to create 3-day weekends, it is now celebrated the third Monday in February. President Lincoln’s birthday on February 12 was also celebrated in many states, but was not a federal holiday. By calling it Presidents’ Day, it celebrates both.
Don’t forget to put on your calendar that Richville Volunteer Fire Department will have Bingo on February 24 at 6:30. Everyone always has a great time even if they don’t win! Concessions are available, also. It is a great fundraiser for our fire department.
Well, my parents’ estate sale went well even with the rainy weather. Many things were sold, which pulled at my heartstrings. But, I looked at it as a chance for someone else to enjoy and make new memories. If anyone needs someone to do an estate sale, I recommend Yellowleaf Antiques out of Clanton. Susan was wonderful to work with.
Don’t forget you can drop off your taxes to be done in Rockford on Wednesdays from 9 to 2 at the Rockford Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. While walk-ins are welcome, you can call 256-234-0347 to make an appointment. Be sure you tell them it’s for the Rockford location.
I’m continuing to use “love” scriptures this month, so John 15:12-13 reads, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
What a great blessing to have a friend that you can count on regardless of circumstances. Sadly, few of us have such a friend. We have many that can be called “fair weather” friends; they are there when everything is going great, having fun and no troubles. Then we have friends that are more, but still if it comes right down to it, we can’t really count on them to stand by us regardless of how difficult the situation. Finally, sometimes we are fortunate enough to have a friend just like John describes, that we can rely on during those hard and difficult times. But even that friend has limitations, so the greatest friend we have through all our trials and troubles is Jesus. He will always be with us no matter what.
Pray for those in our community that are experiencing sickness, as well as those that are grieving with the loss of a loved one. We need to remember the shut-ins and their families, as well. So please pray for their healing in God’s will. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
