Sylacauga man arrested on drug charges

A Sylacauga man was arrested on two drug-related charges late last month in the Weogufka area following a routine stop.

On January 30, Deputy Payton and Deputy Williams were on patrol when they observed a vehicle traveling north on County Road 29. The vehicle was first observed coming from a Weogufka area known for drugs.

The vehicle was initially pulled over for a violation as it had no tag lights. Deputies approached the driver side of the vehicle and identified the driver as Fletcher Antawin Strong.

While speaking with him, deputies noticed he appeared very nervous and had numerous indicators that “something was wrong with him,” per reports.

Payton deployed K-9 Archie to walk around the vehicle, and Archie signaled on it. Deputies asked Strong if he had anything illegal on him or in the vehicle, and he said he did not.

Upon patting him down, deputies found a glass pipe containing residue in one of his pockets. They further found a bag containing crystal methamphetamine in another of his pockets.

Strong, 45 years old, was arrested on January 30 and charged with possession of a controlled substance and use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia.

His total bond was set at $7,500, and as of press time he had been released on bond to await trial.
