A routine patrol led to a drug-related arrest after a deputy observed erratic driving behavior.
On February 2, Sgt. Ward was on routine patrol in the vicinity of County Road 4 when he noticed a vehicle leaving the roadway numerous times, swerving and stopping in the road.
He stopped the vehicle and talked to the driver, who was reportedly acting very nervous, shaking and sweating. Deputy Payton arrived on the scene and deployed K-9 Archie, who signaled on the vehicle.
Payton noticed a baggy in plain view on the passenger seat, with the baggy containing a clear crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
The driver, 51-year-old Donald Floyd Gissendanner Jr., was arrested on the charge of possession of a controlled substance.
His bond was set at $5,000, and as of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
