A Childersburg man was killed in one of two fatal wrecks that occurred less than an hour apart in the Childersburg area Tuesday evening.
According to the Childersburg Police Department, after responding to one wreck at about 6 p.m. at U.S. Highway 280 and Wood Road, they were then dispatched to a second wreck at about 6:50 p.m. at Highway 280 and Flag Pole Mountain Road westbound, outside the Childersburg city limits.
Childersburg Police Department responded to that wreck with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, along with Childersburg and Sylacauga Fire departments. That particular wreck, being outside the city limits, is being investigated by ALEA.
Yesterday, ALEA reported that the two-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday evening had claimed the life of a Childersburg man. Childersburg Fire and Rescue had described the wreck as a “vehicle versus log truck” and reported that upon arriving at the scene crews found an SUV that had “run into the back of a log truck.”
According to ALEA, 43-year-old Marcus E. Crawford was fatally injured when the 2002 Ford Explorer he was driving struck the 2005 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Claude D. Wilson, 62, of Kellyton. Crawford was pronounced deceased at the scene.
ALEA reported that the wreck occurred on Highway 280 near Tanner Circle, approximately one mile east of Childersburg, in Talladega County.
Nothing further is available as troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
